What is the German Heart Foundation and what are its missions? As Germany's largest patient organization in the field of cardiovascular diseases, the German Heart Foundation's primary mission is to provide independent information to heart patients about cardiovascular diseases, current treatment methods, and effective prevention options, as well as to promote cardiovascular research. The association, based in Frankfurt am Main, was founded by cardiologists in 1979. The Heart Foundation now has over 100,000 members. The non-profit organization operates independently of commercial interests and receives no government funding. It is financed through membership fees, donations, and legacies. Barbara Genscher has been its patron since 1987.
