About the Conference​

On behalf of the International Centre for Birth Defect Surveillance and Research (ICBDSR), we are delighted to extend a warm welcome to you for our 52nd Annual Meeting. The event will take place 13-16 September 2026, at the Medical Faculty Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, near Berlin, Germany.

Your local hosts, Team Malformation Monitoring Centre Saxony-Anhalt, together with the ICBDSR Executive Committee, we are excited to bring together ICBDSR full and affiliate members and other key professionals and interested individuals from around the globe to advance our collective mission in birth defect surveillance, research and prevention.

The theme of this year’s meeting is:
“Counting What Matters: Data-Driven Advances in Prenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Therapy”​

This year's conference once again offers an enriching scientific program, joint discussions, and networking opportunities aimed at promoting innovation and strengthening international partnerships—particularly with groups working on birth defects and surveillance programs. Continuing on from last year's connections, we would also like to encourage members of programs from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to
participate in the conference.

In the heart of the region around Magdeburg, attendees will experience an inspiring environment that encourages dialogue, reflection, and shared learning. The area combines rich history with modern innovation: from the Otto city of Magdeburg on the Elbe River to impressive cultural landscapes and vibrant centers of science and business. Central Germany is known for its openness, accessibility, and time-honored hospitality, creating the perfect setting for new ideas and meaningful connections. As always, there will be a half-day tour
(optional additional cost) integrated into the scientific programme. We invite you to take full advantage of this unique setting to exchange ideas, explore new research, and connect with colleagues in the field of birth defect surveillance and research.

The Annual Meeting will be preceded by a one-day workshop on surveillance on Sunday 13th September at the same venue (more information to follow soon). This will be offered to a limited number of participants free of charge (excluding accommodation) on a first-come, first-served basis, with ICBDSR 2026 Annual Meeting registered attendees taking preference.
